Oh, the Karl Foerster’s in Spring
It’s almost officially summer and Fresno is just barely starting to get the memo…but no one’s complaining! We’ve had the best weather all spring and I’ve loved every minute.
Here’s another look at #mustachesandfamilybashes then and now. We did Karl Foerster Feather Reed Grass behind their poured in place concrete seat wall for some height and drama and it’s filling in SO nicely!
They are low maintenance, dramatic, and I love how they sway in the breeze from spring through fall. Rhett calls them “striking” and they just are. At our house, they separate our backyard into distinct spaces and instead of making it feel smaller, I feel like it makes it more expansive because the second half of the yard is semi-hidden and your eye is naturally drawn back there to try and figure out what’s going on.
The Karl’s DO have what we’ve dubbed “a fluffy season” when their seed heads are setting in and you end up with “fluff” in the pool, but it’s before swimming really starts and once they’re done we haven’t noticed it at all. Rhett wanted to rip them out at one point but he’s finally addicted and when I brought it up last week he said “no way, they stay” so if I can win him over, you better believe you’ll love ‘em too!! They are sterile, will not spread/self-seed, and grow 2’ wide, to 6’ tall.
